Nordic residents delighted with Luxembourg’s warm weather

Nordic people in Luxembourg delighted with warm weather

With current temperatures hovering around zero, many residents from Luxembourg’s sizable Nordic population are celebrating the weather as comfortable and even warm.

Teija Jalovaara, who comes from central Finland, says: “That’s one of the reasons I took a job here, for these mild winters that could be mistaken for a spring day where I’m from.”

Christoffer Hagervall, who moved to the Grand Duchy last summer from his hometown of Umea in northern Sweden, says that he’s delighted by the sub-tropical climate of this southern country.

“I can’t wait to take a little winter dip in a nearby lake, which in my region is impossible at this time of the year because all the lakes are frozen,” he said. “My only worry is that I might find the water too tepid, and that I won’t feel properly refreshed.”

However, not everyone from northern climes is happy about the sub-zero temperatures the country is encountering. Junglinster resident Sergey Khorunov, originally from Yakutsk in north-eastern Russia, describes the current weather as “an unbearable heat wave.”

“It’s so hot, I can hardly walk to the bus stop without my suit getting soaked with sweat and feeling like I might pass out,” he said. “Fortunately, I have a very compassionate and open-minded boss who allowed to move my desk to a patio outside, so at least I can enjoy a slight breeze and not suffer from intolerable 22-degree heat inside the building.”
