A spokesman for Cactus supermarket has confirmed reports of a Sunday night burglary in which millions of promotional animal-themed cards were stolen from an underground vault near Mersh.
Rene Faber says the company has identified a suspect, an eight-year-old from Junglinster who hours before the heist was overheard saying he’d “do anything” to get the three Mega Öko Gang cards he needed to complete his set.
“The suspect managed to drill a hole in the wall using some kind of advanced Lego set, and during the course of several hours he cleaned everything out,” Faber said. “We’re dusting for fingerprints and also trying to identify some crumbs which appear to be from cookies the suspect was munching on while he committed the crime.”
Faber won’t confirm how many Mega Öko Gang cards were stolen, but the vault was rumored to contain over 10 million of the items, which the supermarket has been leaking to the public since earlier this year, sparking a craze.
“The suspect has already been accused of tricking classmates into trading their rare and valuable cards for inferior ones such as number 26, which is a boring old rat, and 71, which is an earthworm,” Faber added. “We’re pretty sure we have our man.”
