What started as a normal business day on Thursday ended in a hilarious prank bordering on brilliant performance art when a Kichberg barber asked a customer to pay 45 euros for an eight-minute haircut.
Customer Ritik Kumar, who moved to Luxembourg in June to work at Amazon, says he was closely watching how long his haircut lasted because he was worried about missing the bus to go home.
At the cash register, the prankster informed the 27-year-old customer that the price was a whopping €38.50.
“Wait, no, that’s not right,” the barber said.
“Phew,” Kumar said. “For a second, I thought you were serious.”
“I forgot to add the shampooing, which is four euros,” the barber said. “And lucky for you, we have a special on tiny blobs of gel, which today is only two euros and fifty cents.”
“The total comes to forty-five euros,” the barber added.
A long and uncomfortable silence ensued as Kumar slowly removed his wallet, waiting for the joke to be revealed. However, the comic genius continued the act.
“Paying by card?” he said.
“No, I’ll pay with cassshhhhh,” Kumar replied, attempting to break the laws of physics by actually stretching time, waiting for the barber to yield first.
Unable to move any slower, Kumar suddenly laughed at the prank, put 20 euros on the counter, and walked out the door.
“Man, I love that joker’s deadpan comic delivery,” Kumar later said. “And how he didn’t break character, not once, even while chasing me all the way to the bus stop, telling me he forgot to add the COVID-19 surcharge. Amazing.”
