An investigation has opened into how the chief of the country’s meteorological office accidentally issued the same weather forecast three weeks in a row and no one noticed.
Over a three-week period beginning in October, Philippe-Emmanuel Labrume did not update the outlook on state-owned site isitstillraining.lu – “cloudy with a chance of drizzle.”
The error on the site, which is one of the most-read in the country, receiving over 200 clicks per day, went unnoticed until it was spotted by a retired police officer whose primary hobby is reading weather reports and comparing them to what he sees out his window.
“Also, I always know when it’s going to rain because my sciatica starts playing up,” he said.
An investigation into why the site was not updated is ongoing. A witness named Jos Boldrie suggests it was because the meteorologist “desperately needed a vitamin D fix” and had abandoned his post for the exotic destination of Metz, which, being 60 kilometers to the south, receives 1.2 percent more sunlight.
An official statement from the met office apologized for the oversight and offered an updated and accurate daily forecast which read: “Today’s weather will be cloudy with a chance of drizzle.”
