SCHOENFELS — A Luxembourg radar unit has been given the highest award in speed limit enforcement after having caught 100,000 careless drivers since it was dispatched nearly three years ago.
On Tuesday afternoon during a lull in traffic, Captain Marco Trausch gave a Medal of Merit to Unit 12, which operates on CR101 between Kopstal and Schoenfels.
“This is a proud day in the history of law enforcement in Luxembourg,” said Trausch. “Unit 12, you have worked tirelessly, day and night, without so much as a peep of complaint, and with only minimal maintenance and energy requirements.”
While most of those in law enforcement applaud Unit 12’s service, some drivers say the machine is overzealous.
“I got a ticket for going two kilometers over the speed limit,” said one driver. “Where’s the humanity? Oh, right, it’s not human.”
According to sources, Unit 12 says that while it’s honored to have received the medal, it was hoping for something more like a transfer to Luxembourg City, or that it might be reconfigured into a terrifying robotic police unit resembling ED-209, the gun-toting droid featured in the 1987 movie “Robocop.”
