LUXEMBOURG-VILLE — With temperatures across the Grand Duchy soaring to unprecedented highs, Luxembourg’s most iconic figure has melted, according to observers.
Gëlle Fra, who usually stands proudly over Place de la Constitution, was observed slouching yesterday morning, and by the afternoon her face had drooped so much that she was scarcely recognizable.
Many residents say that the melting is no surprise, considering the current heat wave.
“It’s hot,” said one resident.
“It’s very hot,” said another, feeling the need to echo what everyone has been saying all week.
“You’re right, it’s hot,” said a third, just to dispel any doubt.
By the evening, workers had managed to collect most of Ms. Fra in a giant steel bucket. Dozens of local sculptors have already volunteered to rebuild her as soon as temperatures drop below 1064 degrees — the melting point for gold.
