BERTRANGE – After seeing a man run through the neighborhood for several days on end, the best a group of residents can figure is that someone is chasing him.
“I want to shout, don’t worry young man, with the speed you’re going, unless they’re in a car, they aren’t going to catch you,” said resident Matilda Meyer, 65, adding, “I half wanted to offer him refuge in my home, but I don’t want whoever is chasing him to start chasing me.”
Resident Jean-Philippe Bijou says he’s also seen the man running along the street, several times per week.
“It seems to me that whoever chases him in the evenings is young and fast, perhaps a drug dealer he’s ripped off, because oh man, he really sprints,” Bijou said. “And then, on Sundays, he runs by at a much more leisurely pace, which leads me to believe he’s being chased by an elderly or overweight person, maybe someone whose garden gnome he has stolen.”
Luxembourg police have issued a statement, saying that if the young man is being chased by a scary dog or some bad guys, he can call them or simply run to the nearest police station, and they will help him.
“However, if you are running because you have broken the law and are being chased by a mob of law-abiding residents, we advise you to keep running,” the statement said.
