In what’s being called another feather in its cap, the Grand Duchy has been ranked the best country in the world for saying “Hey, I’m in Luxembourg.”
The title was bestowed by the annual Surveys and Rankings Drive, which is part of the Initiative for Country Claims, which is part of the Office for National Boasting, which is part of the International Tourism Promotion Agency, which is part of the Global Economic Development Organization.
Pollsters asked hundreds of respondents in Luxembourg and elsewhere to contact a loved one or friend, say “hey,” and announce they were in Luxembourg.
“Ninety-nine percent of respondents who were not physically in Luxembourg reported being mildly to severely uncomfortable saying they were,” said Katarina Raqua, who oversaw the survey. “Conversely, ninety-six percent of those who were in Luxembourg said they felt fine telling others they were.”
“As for the one percent who were comfortable lying about being in Luxembourg, they may simply know that no one listens to them anyway, so it doesn’t really matter if they claim to be in Luxembourg, Singapore, or a research station in Antarctica that is under siege by mad penguins.”
“Regarding the four percent of respondents who were in Luxembourg but didn’t feel comfortable telling others so, we speculate that this whole time, they have been claiming to live in Paris or Berlin.”
Raqua says that the message is clear for people residing in Luxembourg or even just visiting the country.
“Go on social media, post ‘Hey, I’m in Luxembourg,’ and know that it is the number one country on Earth in which to do so.”
The Belgian province of Luxembourg and the American city Luxemburg, in the state of Wisconsin, came behind at a distant second and third place. There was no fourth place.
