Adding yet another layer to the confusion that results when someone says they live in Luxembourg, Luxembourg, a historian from the University of Wiltz has discovered a smaller, hitherto forgotten neighborhood called Luxembourg which is located in Luxembourg City.
“This newly discovered Luxembourg is situated in Luxembourg, which is the capital of Luxembourg, as we all know,” said Hubert Bumbert. “People who reside there should, nay, must henceforth say they live in Luxembourg, Luxembourg, Luxembourg.”
However, superstition experts are warning against the widespread adoption of the name.
“Eveyone knows that saying anything three times in a row, even a simple place-name, is the surest way to awaken a centuries-old evil spirit from its hellish slumber,” said Claire Voyant, a psychic and economist from Clervaux.
“Do we really want a hundred years of plague, famine, and blood running in the streets at a time of growing unemployment, economic uncertainty, and inflation?”
Some residents of the newly declared Luxembourg, Luxembourg, Luxembourg complain that the change will cost them precious time when filling in online forms.
“Two times clicking on Luxembourg, once for the city, again for the country, is fine, but having to do it three times is abusive,” says Patricia Mull, who moved to the area nine years ago.
Still, leaders from the national tourism agency are enthusiastic about the new, alliterative name and suggest that adding the third Luxembourg – and whatever demonic curse that may come along with it – will attract more visitors.
“Luxembourg – say it three times, then visit it three times!” explained one official. “If you dare!”
According to a source from the secretive world of restauranteering, plans are already underway to open a brasserie called Luxembourg, Luxembourg, Luxembourg in Luxembourg, Luxembourg, Luxembourg.
