While many adults disparage today’s youth for being self-centered and useless, one Luxembourg City teen has shown there’s still hope for the future.
Giorgios Taliotou, aged 16, was having a typical Friday evening with his two friends when they decided it would be cool to forcibly remove a Vel’oh from its station and ride it around.
Like hundreds of other young people do every day, they took the bike on a dangerous joyride all over the city, nearly crashing into four pedestrians, a Wedely driver, and a Yorkshire Terrier named Gabby.
When they tired of their cycling tour, they crashed the Vel’oh into a wall and spent 15 minutes jumping on it, just like any fun-loving group of teens would.
However, whereas many young people might then toss the heap of twisted metal and rubber over a ravine or into a river, Taliotou wanted to act responsibly.
“My friends were like, let’s hide it so we don’t get into trouble,” Taliotou said. “And I was like, no, let’s leave it on the sidewalk.”
Taliotou says that a little voice in his head was telling him that the VDL might actually like to get back the totally fucked up bicycle.
“Maybe they can fix it, or recycle it,” he said. “They should. Otherwise, it’s, like, a total waste.”
