Scientists from the University of Wiltz have issued a dire warning that the second wave of COVID-19 memes will almost certainly be much worse than the first.
“What we saw from March through early summer was a proliferation of coronavirus-themed memes that actually sucked and got really old, really fast,” said Dr. Rufus Bard, who specializes in memeology, memetics, and horse breeding. “But because we were all stuck inside and had nothing else to do, we were like, LOL, and we shared a few of them.”
“And when I say a few of them, I mean 2.7 billion shitty-ass memes that were basically variations of ‘there’s no toilet paper’ and ‘I’m bored,’” he said. “And this number is nothing compared to what we’ll see this winter.”
What will make this second wave truly catastrophic, Bard says, is that a more prolonged lockdown will drive more newbies to dabble in meme-making, yet their jokes will be virtually the same as during the first wave.
“We’re going to see a lot of stale shit,” Bard added. “It’ll be like a cat chewing on its own tail, for six whole months, until there’s nothing left but a little nub of bone and a couple of stubborn hairs.”
“And you’re still going to share them,” he added.
